I’ve always found it to be weirdly off-putting and inefficient when people use as a chess means to compare intelligence or IQ (which is how profs and grad students seemed to use it when I was a grad student in philosophy). It seems like it would be easier to simply state one’s IQ and save the time with not having to play the game of chess to determine who is smarter.
In contrast, if one simply enjoys the game, that’s another matter.
