David Berlinski on Evolution

Under three minutes.  Nice production job.

Related: David Gelernter, Giving Up Darwin.  Wasn't Gelernter one of the recipients of a Unabomber package?

Part of being an American conservative in my sense of the phrase is a commitment to the respectful but critical evaluation of whatever passes for orthodoxy in science, in religion, in philosophy, in literature and the arts, and wherever else.  Of course, that is not to say that the heterodox, as such, is credible.  In fact, being conservative, I am open to the notion that there is a  defeasible presumption in favor of the orthodox and traditional. If you have no idea what 'presumption' means, see Presumption and Suspension of Judgment

Note the adjective 'respectful'; it goes a long way toward distinguishing my type of critical stance from that of the leftist.

“Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” from 2008
This film is 1 hr, 36 min.
    I recommend it.
David Berlinski appears in this film.
    wikipedia waxes nonsensical:
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed is a 2008 American documentary-style propaganda film directed by Nathan Frankowski and starring Ben Stein.[3][4][a][5] The film contends that there is a conspiracy in academia to oppress and exclude people who believe in intelligent design.[6][7] It portrays the scientific theory of evolution as a contributor to communism, fascism, atheism, eugenics, and in particular Nazi atrocities in the Holocaust.[3][8] Although intelligent design is a pseudoscientific religious idea, the film presents it as science-based, without giving a detailed definition of the concept or attempting to explain it on a scientific level. Other than briefly addressing issues of irreducible complexity, Expelled examines intelligent design purely as a political issue.[8][9][10]

    Ingvar,
I saw it when it was first released. Thanks for reminding me when that was. We invited a couple down the street to see it with us. The woman read a NYT review and refused. Damned ‘liberals,’ from Wisconsin. They won’t leave their comfortable leftist cocoon. Very nice people, but despicably ovine.
