Slop Talk

'Due process' is a term of legal shop talk.  Those of us who know something about the law — I know a little — know how to use it correctly. And those of us who think that words ought to be used responsibly in serious discussions should take offense at the 'slop talk' use of 'due process.' Trey Gowdy knows a lot more about the law than I do. But a couple of Sundays ago he  asked how much 'due process' Laken Riley's assailant showed her. Sean Hannity is another who has asked this question.

That got me thinking about what sort of 'due process' Ibarra should have shown Riley. "You have the right to plead, to pray, and to protest your upcoming rape and murder; you have in addition the right to avail yourself of the services of any well-armed Good Samaritan who might come along."

What were Gowdy and Hannity driving at? That wide-open borders are a recipe for disaster? That the very notion of legal due process needs to be re-thought? Unclear. Commentators who want to be taken seriously  should say what they mean and mean what they say.

Democrats are slop heads in the main; we expect incoherence, inanity, and slop talk from them. Conservatives ought not ape them.  Does my use of 'ape' make me a racist? What if I were to use such words as 'niggardly' and 'denigrate'?

The WAPO fentanyl 'mystery' is another good illustration of how contemptibly stupid our political enemies can be. Karoline Leavitt has fun with it.  In other news, her intersectional and highly 'wokified' predecessor has quit the Dems, and like 'Fake Jake' Tapper and others will endeavor to tap into the money to be made from telling tales of dementia and dysfunction in high places.

Further examples are easily multiplied beyond all necessity. "Tampon Tim" Walz is a bloody good source of them.

Random Political-Polemical Observations

Hanoi Jane.  Jane Fonda recently opined that being 'woke' means that you care about people. Now how stupid is that? But I'll give her this much: she looks damned good after all these years (to an old man, leastways.) All style and no substance, just like pretty-boy Gavin Newsom of California, an unctuous opportunist if ever there was one. Dems demonstrate their stupidity by their inability to see through poseurs like him.

The Democrats. Knee-jerk oppositionalism and blind obstructionism  are all they have these days, as witness the In-Lieu-of-SOTU spectacle.

John Fetterman.  When a guy such as this piece of atavism is the wise man of the Dems, and, horribile dictu,  a Senator to boot, you know that the Dems have become a pack of fools, and that any ship of state with them in control is headed for troubled waters. That being said, my estimation of Fetterman has gone up a notch since he 'beat' Dr. Oz.  The well-fed Futter/Fetterman actually possesses a soupçon of sense, and a grain of gravitas, with which he surpasses Kamala the Clown and the overgrown adolescent, AOC.

Sartorial slack-off and the demise of decorum. That charismatic and stylish trend-setter, JFK, rid men of their Fedoras.  Now we have baseball caps and Senator Fetterman in cargo shorts. Decorum on the decline.  "Weird Al" Green, who is black, and sports a pony (horse?) tail, was rightly censured for his recent outburst by the Speaker of the House. He complained about being made to "sit in the back of the bus."  It will always be the 'fifties for these people.  And they say we want to 'turn back the clock'?

Let's not leave out Adam Schiff, a leaky vessel if ever there was one, issuing his "Screw you and the horse you rode in on" to Trump & Co.   Not to mention the 'shit' mantra dutifully repeated by the Dem lemmings. My friendly advice to them: You'd better get your shit together or you'll never lift your sorry asses out of the dreck.  As for the 'Ragin Cajun,' he seems to have reversed himself on his 'Play possum" advice.  Back to the bayou with you, pal.

Could Kamala Explain the Difference between True and Magnetic North?

I doubt it. She thinks 'the cloud' in cyberspeak refers to a physical object in the sky. Remember that howler?

Why are the Dems so dumb? They lack both a message and messenger. The think they failed to 'get their message across.' But they had no message to get across, and no one to get it across.  Did you see the unedited Sixty Minutes video?  Kamala the Joyous  could not explain why she wanted to be president.  She is perhaps fit to be a kindergarten teacher, but not POTUS.  Is that not blindingly evident? And are you not an emotion-driven fool if you let your TDS impel you to embrace the Joyous One?  I'll leave Tampon Tim and his page-turner of a wife out of this rant.

Part of what make the Dems dumb is their inability to learn  from experience, as witness their continuing to play the race and Hitler cards. Do they have a death wish? And what does it say about the nearly half of the voters who cast their ballots for that intersectional dumbass?

Collateral observation. The voters are not the electorate. Two reasons. First, the voters include those who vote illegally; the electorate, used normatively, as I am using the term, does not. Second, the electorate include those who do not vote in a given election. The electorate comprise those who are legally entitled to vote. You are legally so entitled only if you are a citizen who has not disqualified himself by, say, committing a felony.  Bernie Sanders thinks that felons should have the right to vote. I make an invective-free case  against this foolish and indeed asinine view at Substack, sine ira et studio

By the way, it appears that magnetic north has shifted position.

Dumb Dems and the Hitler Card

Having been dealt a stinging rebuke on 5 November 2024, you might think the Democrats would learn something, for example, that playing the 'Hitler card,' like playing the 'race card,' will henceforth give them a losing hand. But no! The knuckleheads double down!

Elon Musk is an exuberant fellow at the top of his game. And he is, like all sane people, very happy with the outcome of the November election. His heart goes out to all who brought the Orange Man to a second term. And so he jumps around and cuts loose with idiosyncratic arm-hand gestures. He puts his hand on his heart and then extends his arm. A neutral observer might call it a 'heart-felt thank-you' salute. See here for a video of his antics.

But of course the Musk gesture is a Nazi salute to our political enemies. Out comes the 'Hitler card'! Typical.

And then they amalgamate this piece of scurrilous stupidity with a display of their penchant for double standards. (An old saying has it that if you strip a leftist of his double standards he will be left with no standards at all.) After all, "Tampon Tim" (Tim Walz) and "Fauxcahontas" (Elizabeth Warren) have been known to engage in similar arm extensions.  Are they too Nazis?

What these fools don't understand is that they will continue to lose as long as they continue to slander we us the people.

Should people this stupid be let anywhere near the levers of power?

That is a rhetorical question, as is the one that preceded it.

Addendum (1/26)

A commenter points out that Elon's gesture was the Bellamy salute.

Political Perception, Advocacy, and Reality

Hans Meyerson:

There are, I think, three chief obstacles that stand between Biden and re-election: the public’s perception of the economy, the public’s perception of immigration, and Biden’s own weaknesses as an advocate for his policies and his presidency. [Emphases added.]

This is the sort of garbage one expects from a delusional leftist who thinks that Trump poses an Hitlerian threat to 'democracy.'  Blind to their own reality denial, such people think that everything is a matter of perception, messaging, advocacy.  So it it is not Biden's disastrous policies that are the problem, but his failure to persuade the ovine masses to go along with them.

How stupid can these stupidi be?

The Leftist as Denier of Distinctions

The denial of distinctions is the subversion of thought.

A Substack quickie.

One distinction the wokeassed cannot process is that between hate and dissent. To dissent from what you say is not to hate you.  Failure to grasp this simple distinction is predicated on a further failure, that of failing to grasp the distinction between a proposition and a person.

Hammer sickle donkey'Wokeass' is appropriate invective because an ass is a donkey and the home of the 'woke' in the USA is the Democrat Party the symbol of which is the jackass. Communists could not win here under the Hammer and Sickle but they are winning under under the sign of the Donkey.

Astride the Jackass at present is a man multiply defective: feeble in body, non compos mentis, morally corrupt to the core, devoid of principle, a traitor in dereliction of duty, and the mere puppet of hidden masters. Our geopolitical adversaries are licking their chops and preparing to pounce.

When you vote Dementocrat you are voting for the suicide of the West.

DEI and Crash Dummies

DIVERSITY demands that crash dummies be of all sizes, shapes, races, ethnicities, animal species including trans-species hybrids such as the Cat Man, and also 'genders' including trans-dummies, and let's not exclude living humans who 'identify' as crash dummies the better to facilitate their exit from life's freeway.

EQUITY will then be served: an equal outcome will be achieved by all dummies including the dumb-assed Dems who 'identify' as inanimate dummies when they are 'merely' transgressive leftards.

INCLUSION rules out, or excludes, all conservatives from serving as crash dummies, and rules in all fat, ugly, 'vertically challenged,' and 'differently abled' persons especially such politicians as Lori Lightfoot and John Fetterman.

What am I mocking?

Tucker Carlson on the Tulsi Gabbard Show

Long, but good.

Tony Flood comments:

Their occasional descent into verbal coarseness was as disappointing as it was unexpected. It seems that even for some people I most admire, the effort to resist that cultural pull downward is no longer worth the bother.

Our society-wide descent into verbal and other forms of coarseness and crudity outside of locker-room-type contexts can with justice be laid at the doorstep of the Boomer cohort (1946-1964). Tucker and Tulsi are Gen-Xers, and their generation followed ours in the downward direction.  I myself, on Facebook and also here a few times, have employed harsh invective against our political enemies using such words as 'shithead,' 'crapweasel' (which I picked up from Michelle Malkin), and 'chucklephuck.' I may also have used 'asshole.'  Much less offensive is 'p.c.-whipped,' which I got from Ed Feser. I don't need to explain the allusion.

There are two words, however, that I never use in any context. These are words I never even mention let alone use, except via oblique mention.  The one is the c-word when used as a synecdoche. So used, it is not merely crude but vile. The other is the mf-word, which is unspeakably vile for reasons only the morally obtuse will not understand.

One attempt at justification goes like this. "You attack me verbally or physically and I will reply in kind to give you a taste of your own medicine in the hope that this will dissuade you from future bad behavior." For when bad behavior goes unpunished, more bad behavior inevitably follows. As one of my aphorisms has it:

Be kind, but be prepared to reply in kind.

The problem, however, is that our enemies won't be dissuaded in this way, except in a few instances. They feel themselves to be fully justified in their attacks on us. And so the downward spiral continues. Cruder and cruder. I call it 'crudification,' to give an ugly word to an ugly thing.

Tony Flood is a Christian and he knows that charity is demanded of Christians. But is it prudent in this time of civilizational collapse to be a Christian and walk the walk? It all depends on whether the underlying metaphysics is true.

And so once again we see that all roads lead to metaphysical Rome.

Was Jesus a Socialist?

No way! He actually fed people.

…………………..

I came to this witticism via Karl White who got it from someone unnamed.  It is too good not to repeat and propagate.  So do your bit and spread it around.

You can't battle the Left effectively with just one weapon: the whole arsenal has to be brought to bear.  Sweet reason has its uses with some, and the hard fist of unreason with others. Mockery and derision can be effective. And throw in some contumely for good measure.

Don't forget: it's a war. If they win, we lose. They never rest, and so we must be ever-vigilant. Right now the bastards are doing their best to deploy the Chinese virus against Trump and his supporters.  Their nefarious actions are legion. One is the exploitation of the crisis to empty the prisons. They had that goal all along; now they can use the Chinese virus as an excuse.  Another is to use the crisis to close down the gun stores.

Typically leftist: take the side of the criminal element, and violate the rights of the law-abiding. There is nothing progressive about leftists: an appropriate appellation is 'transgressive.' Open the borders; empty the prisons; violate the Constitutional rights of citizens.

Anyone who identifies as liberal, left, progressive, Democrat must be met with the (defeasible) presumption of scumbaggery: they are to be presumed morally obtuse  and intellectually self-enstupidated until they prove otherwise.  They bear the onus probandi.

But the presumption is defeasible. Allow those under scrutiny the opportunity to defeat it. Be tough, but fair.

I call this the political burden of proof.  My previous formulations of it have been too polite.

The Meaning of ‘Asshole’

The author offers a cognitivist as opposed to expressivist analysis of 'asshole' and other foul words.  But the guy is a 'liberal,' as witness the following bit of squeamishness:

(2) pejorative terms, which assume false normative or moral claims about certain independently identifiable groups of people (e.g., "honkey”, "wop”, "kike”, “limey”, "chink”, "n—-r");

He refuses to write out 'nigger' as he does in the other cases. Why not?  The author is well aware of the use-mention distinction. He knows that to talk about a word is not thereby to apply it to someone or something. Why is 'nigger' more offensive than 'kike'? Why the double standard?

The author appears to be 'p.c.-whipped.'

Dennis Miller on Obama, and the Art of the Verbal Counterpunch

(This is a repost, slightly redacted, from 9 October 2014.)

Last night on The O'Reilly Factor, the sharpest comedian out there uncorked the following:

He makes Narcissus look like he invented self-effacement.

In battling the Left, it is not enough to have facts, logic, and moral decency on one's side; one must turn the Left's Alinskyite tactics against them by the use of mockery, derision, contumely, and all the weapons of invective to make them look stupid, contemptible, and uncool.

For the young especially, the cool counts for far more than the cogent.

This is why the quintessentially cool Miller is so effective.  People of sense could see from the outset that the adjunct law professor and community organizer, associate of  former terrorist Bill Ayers and the 'reverend' Jeremiah Wright, raised on leftist claptrap and bereft of experience and knowledge of the world, would prove to be a disaster as president — as he has so proven, and as even Leon Panetta the other night all but admitted.

But Obama came across as one cool dude and that endeared him to foolish voters.

Civility is a prized conservative virtue, and one wishes that such verbal tactics would not be necessary.  But for leftists politics is war, and it is the foolish conservative who fails to see this and persists in imagining it to be a gentlemanly debate on common ground over shared interests.  Civility is for the civil, not for its enemies.

Some time ago I heard Miller quip, in reference to Melissa Harris-Perry, that

She is a waste of a good hyphen.

A nasty thing to say, no doubt, but not as nasty as the slanderous and delusional things she had to say about the supposedly racist overtones of the word 'Obamacare.'

Conservatives should not allow themselves to be hobbled by their own civility and high standards.  As one of my aphorisms has it:

Be kind, but be prepared to reply in kind.

And I don't mean that merely on the verbal level.

‘Wankerati’ and Other Terms of Abuse

I  picked up a new piece of invective from Mark Steyn.

I believe he intends 'wankerati' to be coextensive with 'left-wing commentariat.'  Read his The Turning Point and see if you don't agree. The brilliant polemicist offers up other choice phrases such as "malign carbuncles on the body politic." That's a reference to Di Fi (Dianne Feinstein), et al. And there's "a chamber full of posturing tosspots."

'Tosspot' is a general term of abuse that conjures up drunkard and sot. It puts me in mind of pot-valiant. One is correctly so described if one's courage derives from the consumption of spirits.

There is a use for abuse. It is a mistake to think that verbal abuse ought never to be employed.

Hands are best employed in caressing and blessing. But sometimes they need to be balled into fists and rudely applied to the faces of miscreants.

If one resorts to verbal abuse and invective one does not always thereby betray a paucity of careful thought informed by fact. Verbal abuse has a legitimate use in application to the self-enstupidated, the willfully ignorant, and those out for power alone regardless of truth and morality.

It is not reasonable to think that all are amenable to the dulcet tones of sweet reason; some need to be countered with the hard fist of unreason.

On the other side of the question, one should never resort to invective if one is trying to persuade a reasonable person. One should proceed as calmly as possible.  Any resort to billingsgate will cause the interlocutor to assume that one lacks good reasons.

If you have a large vocabulary you will love my blog; if you don't, you need it.

Trump Delivers

We conservatives who voted for Trump in November 2016 have been vindicated in spades. His accomplishments are manifold and multiplying.  A list is in order. I'll essay one later on. For now I draw your attention to the indelible conservative stamp President Trump is placing on the judiciary which includes but is not restricted to the Supreme Court.

What do you say now, Never Trumpers?  Man up and admit you were wrong.  It is sickening to watch George Will, a man I once respected for his erudition and insight, dissolve into a mewling, puling crybaby as if someone stole his bow tie and the propeller on his beanie.

From October 2016:

The Pussy Cat Bows of the Yap-and-Scribble Bow Tie Milquetoasts

WillPussy Bow is elliptical for 'Pussy Cat Bow,' the latter a well-established term in the world of women's fashion.  Melania Trump sported one at the second debate. Was she out to implant some sly suggestion?  I have no idea.  But it occurred to me this morning that bow tie boys such as George Will also sport pussy cat bows.  (As you know, pussy cats are both male and female.)  And given the currency of 'pussy' in the politics of the day, it seems entirely appropriate to refer to the signature sartorial affectation of effete yap-and-scribble do-nothing quislings like Will as a pussy bow.

George Will is a good example of how Trump Derangement Syndrome can lead to cognitive meltdown.

I used to respect Will. No more.
