{"id":9797,"date":"2012-04-04T06:57:02","date_gmt":"2012-04-04T06:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maverickphilosopher.blog\/index.php\/2012\/04\/04\/the-case-of-morris-starsky\/"},"modified":"2012-04-04T06:57:02","modified_gmt":"2012-04-04T06:57:02","slug":"the-case-of-morris-starsky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maverickphilosopher.blog\/index.php\/2012\/04\/04\/the-case-of-morris-starsky\/","title":{"rendered":"The Case of Morris Starsky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">Quite by chance this morning I stumbled upon materials relating to one Morris Starsky, a professor of philosophy at Arizona State University who was fired from a tenured position for his political views in 1970.&#0160; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Morris_Starsky\" target=\"_self\">Here<\/a> is the <em>Wikipedia<\/em> article; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/1989-02-01\/news\/morris-starsky-s-proud-exit\/\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a> is something from the <em>Phoenix New Times<\/em>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themilitant.com\/2011\/7513\/751349.html\" target=\"_self\">this<\/a> is from <em>The Militant<\/em>.&#0160; All of these sources to be consumed <em>cum grano salis<\/em>.&#0160; <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">A search at <a href=\"http:\/\/philpapers.org\/\" target=\"_self\">PhilPapers<\/a> turned up nothing on the man, which says something.&#0160; Some commentary later, perhaps, once I know more about the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\"><strong>Addendum<\/strong> (7:05 PM):&#0160; The ever-helpful <a href=\"http:\/\/maverickphilosopher.typepad.com\/maverick_philosopher\/2011\/04\/who-is-dave-lull.html\" target=\"_self\">Dave Lull<\/a> reports that Morris Joseph Starsky <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldcat.org\/title\/ontological-problem-of-oratio-obliqua\/\" target=\"_self\">earned the Ph.D.<\/a> from the University of Michigan in 1967 with a dissertation entitled, &quot;On the Ontological Problem of <em>Oratio Obliqua<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\"><strong>Addendum<\/strong> (5 April):&#0160; Lull informs me that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azarchivesonline.org\/xtf\/view?docId=ead\/asu\/starsky.xml&amp;doc.view=print;chunk.id=0\" target=\"_self\">Morris J.
