{"id":9600,"date":"2012-06-27T11:30:56","date_gmt":"2012-06-27T11:30:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maverickphilosopher.blog\/index.php\/2012\/06\/27\/jonathan-haidt-awakens-from-his-dogmatic-liberal-slumbers\/"},"modified":"2012-06-27T11:30:56","modified_gmt":"2012-06-27T11:30:56","slug":"jonathan-haidt-awakens-from-his-dogmatic-liberal-slumbers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maverickphilosopher.blog\/index.php\/2012\/06\/27\/jonathan-haidt-awakens-from-his-dogmatic-liberal-slumbers\/","title":{"rendered":"Jonathan Haidt Awakens from his Dogmatic Liberal Slumbers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2012\/jun\/26\/righteous-mind-author-haidt-conservatives-have-bro\/?page=all\" target=\"_self\">Conservatives have broader moral sense than liberals<\/a>.&#0160; All praise to Haidt for having the openmindedness and courage to change his view, but I marvel at how incurious and bigoted he was before his metanoia.&#0160; What sort of person ignores whole swaths of the intellectual terrain without any desire to explore at first hand?&#0160; That sort of narrowness among supposed intellectuals has&#0160;always amazed me.&#0160; Analytic philosophers are a particularly&#0160;bigoted bunch.&#0160; Not all, of course, but far too many.&#0160; Some even&#0160; brag of their ignorance.&#0160; &quot;I have never read Hegel and I have no intention&#0160; of reading him.&quot;&#0160; <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">Then get out of here you contemptible bigot!<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">Before stumbling across the Muller anthology, the popular former <a href=\"\/topics\/university-of-virginia\/\">University of Virginia<\/a> psychology professor thought of conservatism as a \u201cFrankenstein monster,\u201d he says \u2014 an ugly mishmash of Christian fundamentalism, racism and authoritarianism.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">So without any first-hand acquaintance with conservative thought, Haidt bought into an ugly misrepresentation.&#0160; But, as I said, he has come around and ought to be praised for that.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">At <a href=\"\/topics\/yale-university\/\">Yale<\/a>, <a href=\"\/topics\/jonathan-haidt\/\">Mr. Haidt<\/a> majored in philosophy to find some answers.
