Here is an old Powerblogs post.  It is reposted in my conviction that we must catalog and never forget the absurdities of the race-baiting Left.<\/span><\/p>\n

A while back, some fool from the Left coast \u2014 a Democrat party hack if memory serves \u2014 suggested that the name \u2018Schwarzenegger\u2019 was racist because of the \u2018negger\u2019 part. There was also the sly implication that the \u2018racism of the name\u2019 transferred onto its bearer. This slovenly pseudo-thinking is aided and abetted by the fact that schwarz<\/em> is German for black. Hence, \u2018black-nigger.\u2019  Arnold Black-nigger.<\/span><\/p>\n

To dispel this nonsense, note first that the German for \u2018negro\u2019 is not Negger<\/em>, but Neger<\/em>. Second, when \u2018Schwarzenegger\u2019 is compared with such similar names as \u2018Heidegger,\u2019 it becomes clear that \u2018Schwarzenegger\u2019 is to be parsed as Schwarzen-egger<\/em> and not as Schwarze-negger<\/em>.\u2019 When I pointed this out to Horace Jeffery Hodges<\/a>, he remarked that Egger<\/em> is an early form of Acker<\/em>, field. I suggested in turn that this is probably the origin of the English \u2018acre.\u2019 So if we must assign a meaning to Arnold\u2019s name, it would be that of \u2018black acre,\u2019 or perhaps, \u2018swarthy field.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

Now what about Heidegger? If we must assign a meaning to his name, I suggest that it is that of \u2018heather field,\u2019 or \u2018heath acre,\u2019 or perhaps, \u2018pagan soil.\u2019 Die Heide<\/em> (feminine) means heather, heath, moor. . . while der Heide<\/em> (masculine) means pagan. Given Heidegger\u2019s association with the Blut und Boden<\/em> ideology of the National Socialists \u2014 an association he never properly renounced \u2014 and the dark trends of his later thinking, \u2018pagan soil\u2019 may well be fitting.<\/span><\/p>\n
