Their pop songs reached teenagers with Appalachian harmonies rooted in gospel and bluegrass. [. . .]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">They often sang in close tandem, with Phil Everly on the higher note and the brothers\u2019 two voices virtually inseparable. That sound was part of a long lineage of country \u201cbrother acts\u201d like the Delmore Brothers, the Monroe Brothers and the Louvin Brothers. In an interview in November, Phil Everly said: \u201cWe\u2019d grown up together, so we\u2019d pronounce the words the same, with the same accent. All of that comes into play when you\u2019re singing in harmony.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">Paul Simon, whose song \u201cGraceland\u201d includes vocals by Phil and Don Everly, said in an email on Saturday morning: \u201cPhil and Don were the most beautiful sounding duo I ever heard. Both voices pristine and soulful. The Everlys were there at the crossroads of country and R&amp;B. They witnessed and were part of the birth of rock and roll.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">You may remember it from Linda Ronstadt&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ScOpzm-BYX4\" target=\"_self\">version<\/a>, but the Everlys did it first:&#0160; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=or5gjbGHeYE\" target=\"_self\">When Will I be Loved?<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">Carole King <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Pi1lqdOTWBM\" target=\"_self\">wrote it<\/a>, but Don and Phil made it a hit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1UntuPVcvd0\" target=\"_self\">Crying in the Rain<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nmjPAb-v4Nw\" target=\"_self\">Bye Bye Love<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tbU3zdAgiX8\" target=\"_self\">All I Have to Do is Dream<\/a>.&#0160; YouTuber comment:&#0160; <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"Ct\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">RIP Phil Everly.
