A florilegium, then, is an anthology, compendium, collection, miscellany, album of excerpts and extracts from writings of (usually) high quality by (usually) ancient authors.&#0160; The <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books\/about\/Philokalia.html?id=k9e_9dXUqpQC\" target=\"_self\">Philokalia<\/a> is a florilegium.&#0160; <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">An album of pictures of flowers would also count as a florilegium, and, I suppose a book of actual dried flowers would as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">The plural is <em>florilegia<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\"><strong>UPDATE (10\/15):<\/strong> Patrick Kurp of <a href=\"http:\/\/evidenceanecdotal.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_self\">Anecdotal Evidence<\/a> informs me of <a href=\"http:\/\/evidenceanecdotal.blogspot.com\/2012\/08\/the-relation-of-tiles-to-one-another.html\" target=\"_self\">an entry of his<\/a>, one rather more erudite than mine, on the topic.&#0160; He also points out that some weblogs count as florilegia, <a href=\"http:\/\/laudatortemporisacti.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_self\">Gilleland&#39;s<\/a> for example.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You have already guessed that it has something to do with flowers.&#0160; By its etymology, a gathering of flowers, literary flowers.
