\u201cMany white people in Oregon have no idea that our schools and state are immersed in white culture and are uncomfortable and harmful to our students of color, while also reinforcing the dominant nature of white culture in our white students and families,\u201d one of the conference documents explains.<\/span><\/div>\n

The manual defines this \u201cwhite culture\u201d with a list of values, such as \u201cpromoting independence, self expression, personal choice, individual thinking and achievement,\u201d because apparently those are strictly \u201cwhite\u201d concepts and not emphasized in black communities.<\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/span><\/div>\n
The training instructs participants to stop \u201cblaming when students don\u2019t meet standards\u201d and instead start \u201cexamining our beliefs and practices when students don\u2019t meet standards.\u201d It advises faculty to avoid \u201ccontrolling or teaching discipline to students\u201d and to instead think about \u201cchanging school practices that alienate students and lead to disruptions.\u201d <\/span><\/div>\n

It also tells participants to stop calling dropouts \u201cdropouts\u201d and to call them \u201cpushouts\u201d instead \u2014 after all, these kids clearly had no choice. They were basically kicked out of school by all of the white privilege.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
