Not everything<\/a> in the NYT is leftist crap.  The new Scorsese effort is based on the novel \u201cSilence,\u201d by Shusaku Endo.<\/span><\/p>\n

My copy should be arriving today.  A tip of the hat to Karl White for informing me of it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe novel poses a very profound theological question,\u201d Peter C. Phan, a Jesuit theologian at Georgetown who was born in Vietnam, told me. \u201cThe question is this: Are we allowed to do an essentially evil act to obtain a good result? <\/span><\/p>\n
