My intention was to ridicule the politically correct silliness of those who see something reprehensible in, say, donning a sombrero when one is not a Mexican. &#0160;Aphorisms, maxims, and other sayings derive their punch from their pith. You have heard it said, briefly, and with wit, that &quot;Brevity is the soul of wit.&quot; <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#0160;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">Let us note <em>en passant<\/em> and in defiance of the content of the witticism that it can be found in&#0160;William Shakespeare in <em>Hamlet<\/em>, Act II wherein the Bard has Polonius say:<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"original-line\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"original-line\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes,<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"original-line\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">I will be brief: your noble son is mad.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"original-line\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">Was this beautiful coinage first put into circulation by Shakespeare?
