{"id":5576,"date":"2017-04-28T05:42:10","date_gmt":"2017-04-28T05:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maverickphilosopher.blog\/index.php\/2017\/04\/28\/heterodox-academy\/"},"modified":"2017-04-28T05:42:10","modified_gmt":"2017-04-28T05:42:10","slug":"heterodox-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maverickphilosopher.blog\/index.php\/2017\/04\/28\/heterodox-academy\/","title":{"rendered":"Heterodox Academy"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">We are a <a href=\"http:\/\/heterodoxacademy.org\/2016\/02\/24\/krugman-is-wrong-we-are-not-conservative\/\">politically diverse group<\/a> of social scientists, natural scientists, humanists, and other scholars who want to improve our academic disciplines and universities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">We share a concern about a <a href=\"http:\/\/heterodoxacademy.org\/problems\/\">growing problem<\/a>: the loss or lack of \u201cviewpoint diversity.\u201d When nearly everyone in a field shares the same political orientation, certain ideas become orthodoxy, dissent is discouraged, and errors can go unchallenged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">To reverse this process, we have come together to <a href=\"http:\/\/heterodoxacademy.org\/2015\/09\/10\/welcome-to-heterodoxacademy\/\">advocate for a more intellectually diverse and heterodox academy<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">Your humble correspondent would suggest that advocacy is not enough. We have to learn how to punch back at the fascist bastards, using their own tactics against them in some &#0160;cases, and hitting them over their feculent heads with their own book of rules, Saul Alinsky&#39;s <em>Rules for Radicals<\/em>.&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">In some cases we will be &#39;punching down&#39; at losers and screw-ups, a justified procedure given that the bums have freely chosen their status.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are a politically diverse group of social scientists, natural scientists, humanists, and other scholars who want to improve our academic disciplines and universities.
