Take it with several grains of salt and factor in the fact that it is by a &#39;transwoman.&#39; The following is borne out by my experience:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">But ultimately I don&#39;t need academic philosophy to&#0160;<em>do philosophy<\/em>. My blogging over the past ten years has reached a larger audience than I could ever hope to achieve through the academic journal system.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">On a really good day I&#39;ll get 3,000 page views. Usually I bump along at about half of that or less. &#0160;But I reach people and influence them.
