If you are to include Beethoven, It would be perverse to omit Schumann\u2019s Mondnacht<\/em> (moonlit night), set to a poem by Eichendorff, supposedly the favourite poem of the Germans, when they are not invading other countries.  \u201cThe image of death is tenderly and touchingly portrayed as the soul quietly returning home\u201d. The progression at 2:23 is sublime. <\/span><\/p>\n
