It all started about the time he was born, in the 1960s. Back then Herbert Marcuse was turning day into night by referring to American culture as an example of &quot;repressive tolerance&quot;. He laid down the foundations of today&#39;s campus totalitarianism by stressing that there can be &quot;no free speech for fascists.&quot; A facist [fascist] being defined as anyone who opposes the cultural marxists that were just beginning to assert [insert] themselves into academia as student protesters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">Those students of the &#39;60s became in turn professors, administrators, and finally college deans and presidents. To think that having come so far via their long march through the institutions, <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">that<\/span> they would give it all up as if it were a big misunderstanding, is just terminally naive.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">That&#39;s right. The centrifugal forces are in the ascendancy, and they can be expected to be operative for some time to come. And that reminds me that I need to get out to the range.
