As for the Right\u2019s reassessments, every conservative publication has been forced to admit, however grudgingly, that President Trump had significant accomplishments in his first year. The Weekly Standard called his record \u201creasonably impressive.\u201d But this bombshell appears alongside their default position: \u201cTrump\u2019s character and temperament made him unfit for office.\u201d How to reconcile these?<\/span><\/p>\n

Partly through wishful counterfactuals. \u201c[S]imilar ends,\u201d the editors assure us, \u201cwould have come from almost any Republican president given a Republican Congress.\u201d Really? That seems far from inevitable.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
