New York's Bozo de Blasio goes after<\/a> a great high school,<\/span><\/p>\n

Stuyvesant High School, the crown jewel<\/a> of the New York City school system.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a better world, we wouldn\u2019t care about the racial and ethnic composition of the Stuyvesant student body. That it\u2019s the strongest it can be, in academic terms, would be all that mattered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here, for purposes of the world we actually live in, is the breakdown of the entering freshman class at Stuyvesant:<\/span><\/p>\n

Asian \u2014 613<\/span>
White \u2014 151<\/span>
Hispanic \u2014 27<\/span>
Black \u2014 10<\/span><\/p>\n

These numbers don\u2019t sit well with Mayor Bill de Blasio. Interestingly, though, his son just graduated from Brooklyn Tech, another elite high school with a similar racial and ethnic balance.<\/span><\/p>\n

De Blasio proposes to do away with the entrance exam altogether. As Richard Cohen<\/a>, a liberal columnist for the Washington Post writes, this would destroy a system that \u201cepitomized the American dream and \u2014 as [President] Trump might say \u2014 made America great.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
