That it\u2019s the strongest it can be, in academic terms, would be all that mattered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">Here, for purposes of the world we actually live in, is the breakdown of the entering freshman class at Stuyvesant:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">Asian \u2014 613<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">White \u2014 151<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">Hispanic \u2014 27<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">Black \u2014 10<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">These numbers don\u2019t sit well with Mayor Bill de Blasio. Interestingly, though, his son just graduated from Brooklyn Tech, another elite high school with a similar racial and ethnic balance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 11pt;\">De Blasio proposes to do away with the entrance exam altogether. As&#0160;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/new-yorks-mayor-wants-to-demolish-a-school-system-that-lifts-kids-out-of-poverty\/2018\/06\/11\/42168d6c-6dab-11e8-afd5-778aca903bbe_story.html?utm_term=.7e9eb760bc85\">Richard Cohen<\/a>, a liberal columnist for the Washington Post writes, this would destroy a system that \u201cepitomized the American dream and \u2014 as [President] Trump might say \u2014 made America great.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York&#39;s Bozo de Blasio goes after a great high school, Stuyvesant High School,&#0160;the crown jewel&#0160;of the New York City school system.
