[Which is] maybe himself.\u201d Irwin Silber, the rigidly Communist editor<\/a> of Sing Out!<\/em> magazine, the in-flight magazine of the radical folk scene, excoriated the New Dylan<\/a> for having abandoned political songs in favor of \u201cinner-directed, innerprobing, self-conscious\u201d music. Decades later, Silber reflected on his criticism<\/a> by acknowledging that his \u201cbiggest concern was not with the electricity. . . but with what Dylan was saying and doing about moving away from his political songs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Dylan was so desperate to slip out from folk\u2019s rigid ideological strictures that he would simply deny the politics even of his most transparently political songs. \u201cBlowin\u2019 in the Wind\u201d wasn\u2019t topical but \u201cjust a feeling I felt<\/a> because I felt that way.\u201d Already in 1964, he would shrug at a song he wrote about the lynching of Emmett Till<\/a>, \u201cwhich in all honesty was a bullshit song. . . .
