For all of the sophisticated \u201cstructural\u201d and \u201cmaterialist\u201d analyses of the Communist world, it comes down to the simple fact that the European Communist rulers\u2014most of them anyway\u2014lost the will to shoot their own people in large numbers. (Not so the Chinese.)
