I learned the lesson back in &#39;87. New to the game, I freaked out on <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Monday_(1987)\">Black Monday<\/a>. Of course you remember the 508 point drop in the Dow. I got out, locking in losses, but then took too long getting back in. Now I am older, wiser, and if truth be told, a tad wider.&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Here is an old post of mine from 2008 that stands up well: <a href=\"https:\/\/maverickphilosopher.typepad.com\/maverick_philosopher\/2009\/10\/some-principles-of-a-financial-conservative.html\">Some Principles of a Financial Conservative<\/a>. Agree or disagree, but if you disagree you won&#39;t budge me from views only reinforced by my experiences since aught-eight.&#0160; The main, thing, however, is to think hard, critically, and for yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">And another thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Don&#39;t say that money is the root of all evil. That&#39;s just silly. Say something that is true:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">The <strong>inordinate<\/strong> <em>love<\/em> of money is the root of <em>some<\/em> evils.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Point proven in <a href=\"https:\/\/maverickphilosopher.typepad.com\/maverick_philosopher\/2009\/12\/radix-omnium-malorum.html\">Radix Omnium Malorum<\/a>.&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good advice.
