He\u2019s not thoughtful enough to understand how much he overstates government\u2019s ability, disciplined enough to lay out the costs of his grand proposals, or self-reflective enough to catch the irony of his own capitalistic practices. But based on her first book, it is patently clear that ElizabethWarren <em>does<\/em> understand. And that\u2019s probably more troubling. Ignorance with self-righteousness is one thing. Knowing better and then arguing otherwise is a different sort of evil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">So what happened to Warren? My best guess\u2014and, I think, the most gracious interpretation of her hypocritical flips\u2014is that \u201cthe fight\u201d became everything. And so principles, wisdom, and insight became the casualties. The ends slowly began to justify the means. Maybe losing the \u201cbankruptcy war\u201d to Hillary and the lobbyists embittered her. Or maybe \u201csubsidizing the wrong people\u201d\u2014through the Troubled Asset Relief Program and banks that were \u201ctoo big to fail\u201d\u2014sent her over the edge.
