It is nominalised in the neuter (to philarguron) in Plato Republic 347b, where its use is clearly very negative, referring again to abnormal love of money &#0160;:<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.perseus.tufts.edu\/hopper\/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0168%3Abook%3D1%3Asection%3D347b\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.perseus.tufts.edu\/hopper\/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0168%3Abook%3D1%3Asection%3D347b<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div>&#0160;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">The verb philargure\u014d (to love money) is also clearly pejorative. It is found in 2 Maccabees 10:20 in the Septuagint.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&#0160;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">(2) Secondly, the word for \u2018root\u2019 is not preceded by a definite article, so that \u201ca root of\u201d would seem preferable to \u201cthe root of\u201d.&#0160;<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&#0160;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">(3) Thirdly, \u201cpant\u014dn\u201d can be understood as \u201cof all kinds of\u201d, where the quantifier ranges over types, classes, of evil rather than all evils, of whatever kind, within one consolidated class. <br \/><\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Don&#39;t say that money is the root of all evil.
