So I have long felt a certain sympathy for a famous passage from Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels,\u00a0<strong>The German Ideology<\/strong>\u00a0(ed. C. J. Arthur, New York: International Publishers, 1970, p. 53):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">. . . as soon as the distribution of labour comes into being, each man has a particular, exclusive sphere of activity, which is forced upon him and from which he cannot escape.
