S. Constitution, Congress is granted the power to declare war. But in Article II, sec. 2,\u00a0 POTUS is granted the power to make war. This power follows from his being Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. The difference between declaring and making war is the difference between words and actions. POTUS under the Constitution is under no obligation to get congressional approval for a military action. The Constitutional point is reasonably debatable. What decides the matter for me is the following.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A grave threat to the nation, an existential threat, whether strictly imminent, or likely to occur within, say, one year, has to be met by decisive and timely action &#8212; it cannot wait on the approval of an indecisive Congress. This ought to be blindingly evident especially when, as at the present time,\u00a0 roughly half the Congress is populated by reflexive hard-Left Democrats who oppose Trump no matter what he proposes or does. Chuck Schumer, for example, who not long ago was <em>for<\/em> voter ID is now <em>opposed<\/em> to it &#8212; for no better reason than that Trump is for it. Examples of this knee-jerk reflexivity are easily multiplied beyond all necessity.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s also not forget that the Islamo-theocratic threat of Khameini &amp; Co. to the Little and the Great Satans is both credible and nothing new. <em>Credible<\/em>, as is proved by a long list of outrages perpetrated against Americans, Israelis, and others. 7 October 2023 is just one item on the list. <em>Nothing new<\/em>, since dating from 1979.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"html-span xdj266r x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak xexx8yu xyri2b x18d9i69 x1c1uobl x1hl2dhg x16tdsg8 x1vvkbs\"><a class=\"x1i10hfl xjbqb8w x1ejq31n x18oe1m7 x1sy0etr xstzfhl x972fbf x10w94by x1qhh985 x14e42zd x9f619 x1ypdohk xt0psk2 x3ct3a4 xdj266r x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak xexx8yu xyri2b x18d9i69 x1c1uobl x16tdsg8 x1hl2dhg xggy1nq x1a2a7pz xkrqix3 x1sur9pj x1fey0fg x1s688f\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mliccione?__cft__[0]=AZZa1ynYf_qEW-QyoapTIm3sKrRfXQxfhJG7_8ZvwotwNNDu2KDw_9-0W8Pwi5lX79_BqnoUm8808hXock-AzrF5OqnLRsbWappMpQtukp-NL1cauSfRIgNbg6d5Wu_68J0&amp;__tn__=-]K-R\"><span class=\"xt0psk2\"><span class=\"xjp7ctv\">Michael Liccione<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span> in a thoughtful and well-written Facebook post relates his fear that (in my way of putting it) the Islamist monster cannot be slain without American &#8216;boots on the ground.&#8217; It&#8217;s a rational fear. But surely that fear was no good reason for not going forward with Epic Fury.
