The genre, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bossa_nova\">Bossa Nova<\/a>, was popular from the late &#39;50s to the mid-&#39;60s.&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">&quot;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SLmdJhD7yGg\">Blame It on the Bossa Nova<\/a>&quot; is a song written by Cynthia Weil (lyrics) and Barry Mann which was a 1963 hit single for Eydie Gorm\u00e9, reaching number 7 on the Hot 100 in Billboard in March 1963.&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">&#39;Route 66&#39; actor George Maharis is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/entertainment\/entertainment-celebrity\/route-66-actor-george-maharis-has-died-what-happened-to-him\/ar-AA1bTYj3\">dead<\/a> at 94.&#0160;&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Jack Kerouac in a letter from 17 January 1962: &quot;Everybody is making money off my ideas, like those &quot;Route 66&quot; TV producers, everybody except me . . . .&quot; (<em>Selected Letters<\/em>&#0160;1957-1969, ed. Charters, Viking 1999, p. 326; see also p. 461 and pp. 301-302.)&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vcZ1k4d02KA&amp;feature=related\" target=\"_self\">Here<\/a>&#0160;is the Nelson Riddle theme music from the TV series.&#0160; And&#0160;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R_ykDw-06H8&amp;feature=related\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a> is part of an episode from the series which ran from 1960-1964.&#0160; George Maharis bears a striking resemblance to Jack, wouldn&#39;t you say? How should we describe the good doctor&#39;s performance? Energetic? Nay, <em>manic<\/em>. Makes this old man want to hit the road, which he will be doing before too long. Every true American loves the open road. And if you don&#39;t? Then you are not a true American. The version by <em>Asleep at the Wheel<\/em>&#0160;is&#0160;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vifUaZQL8pc\">especially good<\/a>.&#0160; &quot;Four on the road, one in the hand,&quot; as Neal Cassady says somewhere.&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Tina Turner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2023\/may\/24\/tina-turner-legendary-rocknroll-singer-dies-aged-83\">died recently<\/a> at 83.&#0160; Some of us remember her mainly in connection with the abusive Ike.&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Rj9Um8T88KM\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">It&#39;s Gonna Work Out Fine&#0160;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Enough death for one night.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Astrud Gilberto, the Girl from Ipanema, has passed on at age 83.
