In the Sonoran desert, September is still seriously summer. But today's monsoon rains brought with them a merciful cool-down which put me in mind of this old standard written by Harry Warren (music) and Al Dubin (lyrics) and first published in 1937. It has been covered by everyone from the Beatles to Slim Gaillard, from Jo Stafford to Cilla Black. For my money, however, the best version is <\/font>Dinah Washington's<\/font><\/a> (1961). Sarah Vaughn's jazzily <\/font>understated version<\/font><\/a> dates from 1957.
