<\/a>\"Desert<\/a> Here in the Zone and elsewhere in the West we are getting a much-needed soaking. And that puts me in mind of my favorite rain songs.  <\/p>\n

<\/font>Fire and Rain<\/font><\/a> is particularly appropriate for California: first the wildfires strip the land of vegetation, then the rains come and bring on mudslides.  Didn't James Taylor have an album called Mudslide Slim<\/em>?  <\/font><\/p>\n

Dee Clark, <\/font>Raindrops.<\/font><\/a>  Cascades, <\/font>Rythm of the Rain<\/font><\/a> (1963).  <\/font><\/p>\n

The Beatles' <\/font>Rain<\/font><\/a> 'blew my mind' back in '66. <\/font><\/p>\n

And of course there is the lovely Gordon Lightfoot composition, <\/font>Early Morning Rain<\/font><\/a>, here performed in 1966 by PP&M.  <\/font>Dylan's version<\/font><\/a> is also very nice. <\/font><\/p>\n

Speaking of America's troubadour, we cannot omit his <\/font>Hard Rain<\/font><\/a>, written in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Dylan was a great writer of topical songs because he knew how to make them poetic and not too obvious.<\/font><\/p>\n

Rainy Day Women #12 & 35<\/em>?  Dylan's worst song.  Doesn't deserve a link.  But his "Buckets of Rain" (from Blood on the Tracks<\/em>) is another story.  Here is <\/font>Maria Muldaur's version<\/font><\/a>.  Remember her?  And <\/font>Dave van Ronk's.<\/font><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
