And that puts me in mind of my favorite rain songs.&#0160; <\/p>\n<p><\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-T35WXFOmwI\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Fire and Rain<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Georgia\"> is particularly appropriate for California: first the wildfires strip the land of vegetation, then the rains come and bring on mudslides.&#0160; Didn&#39;t James Taylor have an album called <em>Mudslide Slim<\/em>?&#0160; <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Dee Clark, <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NAUk1rGMWxg&amp;feature=related\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Raindrops.<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Georgia\">&#0160; Cascades, <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bQstQST1GiM\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Rythm of the Rain<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Georgia\"> (1963).&#0160; <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><font face=\"Georgia\">The Beatles&#39; <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bdrGS__yg6Q\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Rain<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Georgia\"> &#39;blew my mind&#39; back in &#39;66. <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><font face=\"Georgia\">And of course there is the lovely Gordon Lightfoot composition, <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0OCnHNk2Hac\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Early Morning Rain<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Georgia\">, here performed in 1966 by PP&amp;M.&#0160; <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gkb6LzcJuNQ\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Dylan&#39;s version<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Georgia\"> is also very nice. <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Speaking of America&#39;s troubadour, we cannot omit his <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1VC_5IV9SOg&amp;feature=related\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Hard Rain<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Georgia\">, written in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.&#0160; Dylan was a great writer of topical songs because he&#0160;knew how to make them poetic and not too obvious.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><font face=\"Georgia\"><em>Rainy Day Women #12 &amp; 35<\/em>?&#0160; Dylan&#39;s worst song.&#0160; Doesn&#39;t deserve a link.&#0160; But his &quot;Buckets of Rain&quot; (from <em>Blood on the Tracks<\/em>) is another story.&#0160; Here is <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GTC12YreClY&amp;feature=related\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Maria Muldaur&#39;s version<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Georgia\">.&#0160; Remember her?&#0160; And <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=babfyiMj5Bk&amp;feature=related\"><font face=\"Georgia\">Dave van Ronk&#39;s.<\/font><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here in the Zone and elsewhere in the West we are getting a much-needed soaking.
