(See this contemptibly idiotic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/04\/27\/opinion\/27wed1.html\" target=\"_self\">NYT editorial<\/a>.)&#0160; But on any responsible use of terms, waterboarding cannot be called torture.&#0160; (If that is what you call it, what do you call a Saddam-style red-hot poker &#39;colonoscopy&#39;?)&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">Waterboarding led to the Bin Laden capture as Peter King (R-NY) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theyeshivaworld.com\/news\/General+News\/91143\/VIDEO%3A-Peter-King-Says-Bin-Laden%27s-Death-Came-From-Waterboarding.html\" target=\"_self\">revealed<\/a> last night on the <em>O&#39; Reilly Factor.<\/em>&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">Suppose we acquiesce for a moment in the liberal-left misuse of &#39;torture&#39; whereby it subsumes waterboarding.&#0160; Even under this concession, could anyone in his right mind think that it is always and everywhere wrong to use torture?&#0160; That is the kind of extremism that characterizes liberals and libertarians.&#0160; They cannot seem to realize that otherwise excellent principles often admit of exceptions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">Free speech is<a href=\"http:\/\/maverickphilosopher.typepad.com\/maverick_philosopher\/2011\/04\/the-aporetics-of-toleration-notes-on-john-stuart-mill.html\" target=\"_self\"> another example<\/a>.&#0160; <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino;\">&#0160;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One question about waterboarding is whether it is torture.&#0160; Liberals, who are generally sloppy and inflationary in their use of language, say it is.&#0160; These are the same people who think that ID checks at polling places &#39;disenfranchise&#39; those without identification.
